Raasti Iranian Candy was previously known by the name Raasti Northern Persian Unknown. The unknown variety was discovered by a US native with Iranian roots who had a passion for discovering the best figs Iran had to offer. The climate of Northern Iran matched more closely to the grower’s home climate in Virginia, so they decided to grow an unknown variety from Nowshahr, Mazandaran Province, Iran which quickly shot into their top 5 fig list. While the grower originally named the fig for a beloved Aunt and Uncle (Raasti), the fig was renamed to Iranian Candy to describe its place of origin and its ability to be popped into the mouth like a piece of candy.
There are many reasons to try Iranian Candy figs, especially if you live beyond the ideal growing conditions of the Mediterranean. The trees are easy to fruit and can withstand cold temperatures when planted directly in the ground. The figs have a short hang time, meaning growers can usually harvest their figs before they are disturbed by pests or inclement weather. Iranian Candy is early ripening, productive, and produces 2 main crops. All of these qualities make Iranian Candy a good choice to people living in unpredictable climates or short growing seasons.
Terms and Conditions:
***Please be sure to read our Terms and Conditions before purchasing cuttings***
When do we ship cuttings?
Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December):
We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.
**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refridgerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees.
Rooted Cuttings(Spring):
We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span. Please do not ask for ETA's or specific arrival dates. You will receive an email when your order ships with UPS Ground tracking details.
