Gayet trees produce both a breba and a main crop of figs. On the mother tree located in southern France, figs typically ripen in early September. The figs have thin skin and an open eye, but still have good resistance to splitting. Gayet trees have distinctive 5- and 7-lobed leaves with wavy margins. The trees are known to have good hardiness.
Gayet figs have red pulp with a soft and smooth texture. There is little seed crunch in these fruits. The figs are dense with pulp, but have a mild flavor. Tasters note flavors of pear and sugary sweetness.
Gayet is named for the small French village of only a few houses where the fig was discovered. The variety originally comes from the Dordogne region of southern France. Gayet is known as part of Thierry’s collection at Figues du Monde.

When do we ship cuttings?
Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December):
We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.
**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees.
Rooted Cuttings(Spring):
We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span. Please do not ask for ETA's or specific arrival dates. You will receive an email when your order ships with UPS Ground tracking details.
