Cardenillo Fig
Cardenillo originally hails from Spain where a lucky fig enthusiast discovered the variety. It also became part of Montserrat Pons’ fig collection, and today has been popularized in the US by fig-grower, Brian M. Cardenillo is still a rare fig variety, however, and many in the fig community are eagerly awaiting results of their first attempts at growing it.

Cardenillo figs have a yellow or green exterior and round shape with a flat bottom. They have a thick skin covering their dark red interior. The figs usually grow to medium size, weighing between 40-50 grams. Cardenillo figs generally show 5 lobed leaves. The leaves themselves are quite beautiful, with a broad shape, dark green color, and jagged serration. This is a common variety, not requiring the fig wasp for pollination.
Some growers have noted that young Cardenillo trees have a tendency to drop some of the ripe figs as they become heavy. Consider thinning branches from a young Cardenillo tree if the fruit seems to be too heavy. This will allow the tree to grow stronger and retain more figs in the future.

When do we ship cuttings?
Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December):
We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.
**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refridgerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees.
Rooted Cuttings(Spring):
We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span. Please do not ask for ETA's or specific arrival dates. You will receive an email when your order ships with UPS Ground tracking details.
