Celebrate Friendsgiving with Flowers | Kremp Florist

By now you’ve probably heard of the new trendy holiday: Friendsgiving. As its name suggests, participants eat a Thanksgiving meal with the friends that they may not get to see on the last Thursday in November. This party can take place either before or after the actual Thanksgiving holiday, and the fare can consist of simple, store-bought items or entirely homemade cuisine. The important part is that all your pals are gathered in one place.

Kremp Florist has great offerings for your Friendsgiving flowers. If you are that friend with absolutely no cooking skills, a centerpiece will be a much-appreciated contribution. A centerpiece can add a beautiful touch to the table and will make your spread totally Instagram-worthy.

Friendsgiving’s Origins

Now that you know what it is, how did Friendsgiving begin? Some date the holiday back to the 90s when the beloved characters on the TV show Friends skipped traveling home to spend Thanksgiving with their neighbors across the hall. The word “Friendsgiving” was never actually used on the show, though. A mainstream use of the word came in a Bailey’s Irish Cream commercial that encouraged viewers to serve the beverage at their gatherings in 2011. And since then, Facebook has reported more than 75,000 Friendsgiving events posted on the social media site annually. However it began, the holiday has caught on and is a great way to show appreciation for your friendships.

Traditional vs. Nontraditional Centerpieces

The same centerpiece seen on mom and dad’s dinner table will also work for Friendsgiving. A traditional centerpiece is usually designed in a low dish, which is hidden by greenery and flowers. The centerpiece sits low to the table and is usually oblong or round shaped. Seasonal colors like red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and burgundy are typically used. Traditional centerpieces sometimes feature one or more taper candles in the middle to add ambiance to the dinner table.

Nontraditional centerpieces, however, have unique characteristics of their own. Since Friendsgiving is often celebrated by millenials, something a little different may be in order for this gathering of a younger crowd. Starting with the container, wooden boxes can be used to create a rustic, farmhouse look. Or, a rectangular ceramic container could lend to a modern feel. One tradition you’ll want to keep is the low height. This allows for unimpeded sightlines across the table.

You can experiment with color, too. Peach, cream, and burgundy flowers arranged together are a unique take on a fall color palate. Orange, brown, and blue blooms will pop on your table because they are complimentary colors. When accented with dried wheat, cattails, and pods, flowers like roses, stock, carnations, lilies, and thistle have a beautiful fall look. Succulents are also popular with millenials, and combining different varieties of the plants into a dishgarden will make an interesting study for the table. Plus the gift will last for as long as the host cares for it.

As you can see, there are many fun and exciting ways to incorporate flowers into your Friendsgiving celebration. Call Kremp Florist today to select flowers to wow your friends.
