DIY Mother's Day Flowers, Crafts, and Gift Ideas

Moms do so much for us all year, from making our favorite meals to reading bedtime stories and kissing our boo-boos. Mother's Day is the perfect time to show her how much we love her and appreciate everything she does. The best gifts are often homemade, made with care by our own two hands. Not only does Mom get an original present, but she also knows how much time and thought we put into making something just for her. There are lots of different types of gifts that you can make to show your mom how much you care!

A flower bouquet is a classic Mother's Day gift. You can make your own by picking flowers from the yard and tying them together (or buying flowers if the ones outside aren't blooming yet), or you can make flowers out of paper, beads, egg cartons, or other craft supplies. One of the easiest ways to make flowers is to take construction paper in your mom's favorite colors, cut it into flower shapes, and glue the paper pieces to pipe cleaner "stems." Arrange them in a vase or tie them with a ribbon to create a beautiful homemade bouquet for Mom!

If your mom likes gardening or likes to cook, you could also help her grow her own herb garden. Plant rosemary, thyme, and other herbs she likes to cook with in pretty pots from the craft store, or get plain pots and paint them. On Mother's Day, present Mom with her new mini herb garden that she can use to spice up family meals.

If you don't really think that your mom would like flowers or plants, that's OK. You could also make her another type of gift that you think she'll like better. A custom photo frame made from craft sticks, paint, and glitter can be a nice way to display a favorite family photo that Mom will cherish. Or you could use permanent markers to decorate a mug for her morning coffee. You could also think about your favorite types of crafts and whether she might like them: For instance, if you like to make friendship bracelets, maybe you could make one for your mom. You could even add beads to spell out "Mom" or "I love you."

It's important to remember that it's the thought that counts. That means that whatever you give your mom doesn't have to be big or cost a lot of money, but it should show that you thought carefully about what she might like and how much you love her. Maybe you'll decide to just make her a card and write a really nice message about how much she means to you inside. Or maybe you could make a bunch of "coupons" good for things your mom might like, decorate them, and staple them together into a book. The coupons could say things like "One Big Hug," "Breakfast in Bed," "Help With the Dishes," or "Two Hours of Quiet Time." Just be sure to remember that whenever Mom uses a coupon, you have to do whatever the coupon says!
