10 “Give To Gain” Ways to Celebrate International Women’s Day 2026

Quinn Kremp

International Women’s Day is March 8, and if you’re reading this on Feb 20… you’re already doing it right. (No last-minute scrambling. No “Wait—when is it again?”)

This year’s IWD theme is “Give To Gain”—a simple idea with real weight: when we give support, visibility, opportunity, and respect, we all gain.

And yes—flowers can absolutely be part of the celebration. But International Women’s Day is bigger than bouquets. It’s a chance to show up in ways that actually matter.

What is International Women’s Day?
International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day to celebrate women’s achievements and keep pushing for progress on equality and opportunity. It’s observed every year on March 8.

You’ll see it marked in different ways around the world—celebrations, events, advocacy, and yes, thoughtful gestures—when they’re paired with real support.

10 “Give To Gain” ways to celebrate (that don’t feel performative)
Here are easy, meaningful ideas you can do for a partner, friend, mom, coworker, teacher, coach, neighbor, daughter—any woman who deserves a little extra appreciation and support.

1) Give specific recognition (the kind that sticks)

Instead of “You’re amazing,” try:
“You handled that situation with so much calm.”
“Your creativity made this better.”
Specific praise is a gift people replay in their head (in a good way).

2) Give a handwritten note

A quick card can be the most “kept forever” part of the day. Bonus points if you include one sentence that starts with:
“I’ve always admired how you…”

3) Give time (the luxury everyone wants)
Offer something simple that frees her up:

take dinner off her plate

cover a pickup/drop-off

run an errand

watch the kids for an hour of quiet

Time is an underrated love language.

4) Give visibility

At work or in your community: share credit publicly.
If someone’s doing great work, say it where it counts.

5) Give opportunity

Refer her for:

a role

a project

a client

a speaking spot

Opportunity changes someone’s year.

6) Give support to a women-focused cause (even a small amount)
Pick a local women’s shelter, a mentorship program, a women’s health nonprofit, or a scholarship fund. Even a small donation is powerful when multiplied—very “Give To Gain.”

7) Give your dollars to women-owned businesses
One easy way to participate: buy something you’d already buy… from a women-owned brand.

8) Give rest (and mean it)
A cozy night in can be the best gift on earth:

a spa-style basket

a warm drink

a “do not disturb” evening

a real break, not a “break while multitasking”

9) Give a gift that says “I see you”
If you want to include a gift, aim for something that feels personal:

gourmet chocolates for the one with a sweet tooth

a keepsake like a gold-dipped rose

a meaningful figurine or memento

a zodiac-themed gift that matches her vibe

The point isn’t “stuff.” It’s thought.

10) Give consistency (one thing you’ll keep doing after March 8)
International Women’s Day is one day—but real support is a habit. Pick one action you’ll carry forward:

mentor someone monthly

speak up when credit is misplaced

shop intentionally

share opportunities

That’s how “Give To Gain” becomes real.

If you’re celebrating at work: 3 quick ideas that feel good (not cheesy)
Wall of appreciation: ask teammates to write one specific compliment about a woman they work with

Supplier spotlight: buy snacks/coffee from a women-owned business

15-minute “learning moment”: share a short story about a woman who shaped your industry

A simple “Give To Gain” pledge (join us)
If you do one thing this year, let it be this:

Comment or share: What’s one way you’re going to “Give To Gain” for a woman in your life before March 8?

Because when women are supported, communities get stronger—and everyone benefits.
