Carlina Nega is a fig variety from Mallorca, Spain. It was originally part of the fig collection of the famed fig grower, Montserrat Pons.
Boscorosso is an Italian fig variety that originally came from the collection of Fig Arts by Nikki.
Labritja is a newly available and highly sought after fig variety from the island of Ibiza.
The Jebba fig has a black or purple skin and red pulp. It is tear-drop shaped, and grows on tress with three-lobed leaves. The Djebba region is ideal for fig growing because its high mountains and cliffs offer optimal drainage for its many natural water sources.
You can recognize Da Ponte by its large, round shape and light green skin. The fig grows on trees with three-lobed leaves. The skin may show some cracking, but Da Ponte is a hearty fig that is not known to split and has a tight eye. This is a common variety that does not require wasp pollination. Inside Da Ponte, you will find plenty of dark red pulp that fills the cavity.
Deos Negra will set a breba crop and then a main crop late in the year. They are a common variety, and grow on trees with 5-lobed leaves.
Col de Dame Cuitat is a fig from the island of Mallorca in the Balearic Islands. It was part of Montserrat Pons’ extensive collection of figs, and one of many Col de Dame varieties. This variety got its name from the island’s capital, City of Mallorca, which the locals simply called “city,” or Cuitat.
Mig Paratjal figs and their leaves are usually on the smaller side and ripen early. The symmetrical shaped figs have a dark green skin with some white galaxy-type dotting. The skin is known to have a medium thickness and rough texture with vertical cracks forming ribs on the skin.
Tuvia Shehora is a fig that originally grew in the valleys of Israel and Palestine. French fig enthusiasts later transported the variety to the Porquerolles Islands where Tuvia Shehora was grown on the farm, Conservasi, by Dr. Rival. Tuvia Shehora is gaining popularity among fig-growers today, but still remains a rare fig that many look forward to trying for themselves!
Fragola Nera is an Italian fig variety. It is beloved for its very thin skin that makes for easy eating and a pleasing texture.
A Sangue gets its name, meaning “blood,” from its dark red interior. The honey flavored pulp makes a beautiful contrast to the bright green/yellow skin. Although it has many relatives grown throughout the world, A Sangue is its own unique variety, not to be confused with A Sangue Dolce. Mid Atlantic (USA) growers have confirmed A Sangue as a common variety, not requiring wasp pollination.
As its name suggests, Dolce Calderai is sugary sweet. Tasters have noted honey, maple, and brown sugar flavors. Dolce Calderai has been described as intensely sweet. You may be pleasantly surprised to see the beautiful light amber pulp beneath the dark purple skin.
As its name suggests, Leo Longhissimo is a large fig. In fact, it is called a “super jumbo” variety and is said to be the largest green fig in collector Dr. Paolo’s conservatory.
Marot is a French fig variety. “Marot” is actually a common surname in France that can be traced back for nearly a thousand years. The name originally belonged to aristocratic families who lived in the Normandy region during the Norman conquest of England. The surname Marot evolved from the name of the parish “Merriott” where they kept their houses.
Lilla is an Italian fig that was discovered by avid fig collector, Nikky. Nikky is said to have found this rare fruit growing out of the side of a wall. While some have said Lilla hails from Northern Italy, others have reported that the variety in fact comes from northern Sicily. It is no wonder that there is some confusion over Lilla because it is a very rare variety not grown by many.
Reculver likely hails from the French fig grower, Figues de Monde. There is some speculation to this variety’s origin and possible ties to England. It is rumored that Reculver was discovered growing wild on a wall in a coastal English town of the name “Reculver.” It is known as an “ancient variety,” and is still a rare fig in the U.S. today.
Pendolino Rosso figs will form in bunches on the tree and it is known as a prolific variety. It is a bifera fig, meaning it produces 2 crops annually. The 2nd crop ripens late in the season, so it is especially suitable to gardeners with long growing seasons. This is a common type.
Mattepinta is a prolific producer and bears 5-lobed leaves on its trees. It is a common type, not requiring wasp pollination.
Zaffiro is a black fig with a contrasting white/yellow pulp. The lemon custard look of the pulp hints at the fig’s citrusy flavor. Zaffiro is complex with other flavors including nutty, coconut, cinnamon, and persimmon. Zaffiro is a vigorous grower and puts out a prolific harvest, making it a reliable and desirable fig.
Savanac Noire is a French variety that was discovered by Thierry of Figues du Monde. Thierry is said to have discovered this variety growing on a cliff in Lot, France. Savanac Noire is a highly sought after variety in the U.S. and is slated to be one of the hottest figs among collectors.
A great find for any true Fig Enthusiast! The Rosario fig has beautiful skin with a mixture of gold and purple tones. It is very round in shape.
Black Algiers is from Algeria, a North African country with it's coastline along the Mediterranean Sea. The Black Algiers fig has a dark purple skin that can turn to a rich black color, especially when dried. A fabulous variety that is needed for any size fig collection!
Mussega Blanca is a Spanish variety that stands out with its prominent neck. A must-have for any Fig Enthusiast!
Tunisino figs originally hail from Tunisia, a North African country with it's coastline on the Mediterranean Sea. They are large figs with a round and flat shape and yellow skin. The skin is hearty and resistant to damage, making Tunisino a great fig to eat fresh from the tree before it has dried. In addition to these big figs, you will also find 5 lobed leaves on the trees.

Gino’s Black is a fig known for its vigor and many growers in the Northeast count on their Gino’s as a hardy variety.
Del Sen Juame Gran is a Spanish fig. It is a later ripening variety. Del Sen Jaume Gran can often have an open eye. Like Black Madeira, these figs can split. However, they are often still edible and unspoiled despite splitting. Splitting is known to subside once the trees have become established for a few years.
