Long necks and 1-3 lobed leaves distinguish the figs. This variety is known as “improved” because it has less fruit drop, a longer harvest, and is more hardy than before. It is hardy through zone 6. These figs have a closed eye, which leads to little or no splitting so fruit is not lost to pests.

This fig was categorized and numbered as part of the Italian government’s effort to enhance agricultural economic growth in the 1980s.     Easton Purple figs are early and reliable. The Easton Purple fig has a unique look to it with its longer neck. The interior of the fig is light in color and is fruity without much figgy flavor. Leaves of this variety of tree have an unusual arrowhead shape and distinct vein pattern. The leaves are generally single and/or triple lobed.
