The Smallest State

Rhode Island is tucked next to Connecticut and Massachusetts in the North Eastern United States. It was, in fact, the first British colony to formally declare independence on May 4, 1776, two months before the Declaration of Independence was penned, according to Wikipedia. Thus, this 1,045 square-mile swath of land went on to become America’s smallest state.
