Hot Air Balloon Fiesta

New Mexico residents will surely know of the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta held annually in Albuquerque. This event, which began in October 1972, has grown from 13 balloons to 600 of these unconventional aircrafts. The weeklong extravaganza draws tons of tourists looking to take the perfect picture or just simply watch the beautiful balloons.

For a floral arrangement symbolic of the balloon fiesta, color is all-important. The balloons feature an array of hues, and your flower arrangement should too. Another critical aspect of the balloons’ majesty is the details. Stripes, patterns, even favorite cartoon characters can be seen on the floating objects. Consider adding details like a patterned ribbon or a fun and decorative wire that draws the viewer’s eye throughout the arrangement. These touches will take the gift from ordinary to something special. Don’t forget to add a mylar balloon. It will make a great birthday gift!

Yucca Flower

New Mexico’s state flower is the yucca flower, which features a tall stem with white blooms along it. Early settlers of the area called the plants “our Lord’s candles” because of their color and flame like appearance. It wasn’t until 1927, however, that the blossom became an official state symbol. And they proved very useful to New Mexicans; the roots are soap or shampoo substitutes, many parts of the plant are edible, and the dried wood is an excellent fire starter.

Although flower shops would not typically stock the yucca flower, there are ways to hint at the New Mexico symbol. Take a cue from the yucca’s color with an all-white flower arrangement. Blooms like roses, hydrangea, lilies, carnations, alstroemeria, and daisy pom pons all come in shades from cream to white. White can be a refreshing color for any space, or it can be a symbol of innocence, purity, and faith.

Lake Valley Silver Mine

Some towns in New Mexico lasted only as long their mines were producing precious silver. One of those villages is Lake Valley in Sierra County, which is now a ghost town. The settlement bustled from 1881-1893 when miners discovered a silver-lined cavity that they called the “bridal chamber.” The cavity was so prolific that it is said miners could saw off the silver in blocks rather than extracting it by traditional means.

Silver is the symbol of the 25th wedding anniversary. If you are celebrating this milestone or wish to send classic anniversary flowers, consider an elegant flower arrangement with silver accents. A mercury glass vase, painted leaves or berries, or rhinestone pins can add a bit of silver sparkle to any arrangement.

As you can see, there are many interesting aspects of New Mexico to draw upon when selecting a gift for a resident of the state. Let Kremp Florist guide you through the process of ordering flowers for delivery. The knowledgeable florist makes gift-giving a cinch.
