shaltuf-fig
Shaltuf Fig

Shaltuf originally comes from the collection of Thierry of Figues du Monde. The French fig collector obtained this variety from the Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Porquerolles, which sits on an island off the southern coast of France. This idyllic conservatory is seated on 180 acres of protected land, and contains thousands of rare olive, fruit, and fig trees. The Botanical Gardens were opened in 1979 by the French government to protect these amazing species. Shaltuf is a unique heirloom variety worth experiencing.

They grow to medium or large size and have a round and squat shape. Inside, the pulp is a pretty mix of red, pink, and light brown depending on growing conditions. Shaltuf trees have distinct spade and tri-lobed leaves. They are more compact than other fig leaves and do not have long fingers. The leaves have smooth edges and this tree would look beautiful growing as part of a collection. Shaltuf is a common variety, not requiring wasp pollination. It has good resistance to splitting in rain and humidity and it ripens well, even in cooler climates with shorter growing seasons.

Terms and Conditions:

***Please be sure to read our Terms and Conditions before purchasing cuttings***

When do we ship cuttings?

Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December):

We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state.
