The trees grow at medium speed and they are productive, setting many small figs. The tree can even be cut back to the grown after frost if needed. The ripening time for Darouj is typical amongst other Mt. Etna types, but Darouj figs are known for their super black skin that is even darker than other types. The figs are small and tasty, weighing in around 15-20 grams each. Darouj figs also have good resistance to splitting in rain and humidity, so this is a good candidate for growers who experience a wide variety of weather throughout the year.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eDarouj originally comes from Lebanon. The variety was brought to the US by Simon Darouj, a Syrian native, and his Lebanese wife. The couple immigrated to the US sometime before the 1950s to open a general store in DuBois, Pennsylvania. According to a newspaper story from the time, local kids would pick figs from the tree outside while stopping by the general store. The variety Darouj is named after the couple. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October\/November) will ship out first in November\/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine.
